Fossil remains indicate that megalodon was very widespread and was very numerous. It was probably a super-tart located at the top of the food chain, at least until the appearance of organized toothed whales like killer whales. Traces of megalodon teeth on bone fossil remains of marine animals indicate that they ate small cetaceans, sirens, pinnipeds and large fish, eating them alive or dead. The bite force of the largest megalodons probably reached 10.8 tons and made it possible to easily open the thorax of a small whale.
The earliest megalodon fossils (Otodus megalodon, previously known as Carcharodon or Carcharocles megalodon) date to 20 million years ago. For the next 13 million years the enormous shark dominated the oceans until becoming extinct just 3.6 million years ago. Megalodon was not only the biggest shark in the world, but one of the largest fish ever to exist. Estimates suggest it grew to between 15 and 18 metres in length, three times longer than the largest recorded great white shark.
Killer whales are the largest carnivorous dolphins; differ from other dolphins in a contrasting black and white color. Male killer whales reach a length of 10 m and have a mass of up to 8 tons, females – up to 8.7 m long. The dorsal fin in males is high (up to 1.5 m) and almost straight, and in females it is about half as low and bent. Unlike most dolphins, the thoracic flippers of the killer whale are not pointed and sickle-shaped, but wide and oval. The head is short, flattened from above, without a beak; teeth are massive, up to 13 cm long, adapted to tear large prey.
Fossils of different animals are very popular in the world. Ivory is also valued. Elephants were on the brink of extinction. But now the law has settled everything. And the elephants are safe. Fossils for sale are bought very often. Value depends on quality.
